I am representing a company with several large customers with legacy servers running Adaptive Server Anywhere 9.0.2. As we are rolling out new client applications with SQL Anywhere 16 ODBC clients, we are discussing whether we need to upgrade the servers, or if we can keep them on their current 9.0.2 level.
The new version 16 clients will not use any new functionality that the 9.0.2 client did not support. I know that this is not a supported configuration, but I am still wondering if any of you have experience with such a setup.
I can think of three potential categories of problems:
- Database corruption caused by incompatible client
- Data provided by the version 16 client becomes wrong when read back by other 9.0.2 clients
- Other problems in the communication between the version 16 client and the 9.0.2 server
If you are using a similar configuration, have you experienced any problems? If so, which kinds of problems could we expect?
Any input is highly appreciated!
Thanks,
